Myrtle Beach, SC – October 6, 2023 – The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has provided new homes for South Carolina veterans, marking a notable commitment to supporting service members in need.
On October 5, 2023, authorities announced that the organization is set to deliver mortgage-free homes to 343 families as part of a 25th-anniversary initiative honoring fallen FDNY firefighters from the September 11 attacks. This effort aims to assist veterans and first responders,including those who have faced life-altering injuries.
The foundation has previously awarded 20 mortgage-free homes to families in South Carolina, including recipients such as Senior Airman Jabrier Lee and Sgt. Gordon William Best. Lee received his home after battling severe health issues related to his military service, which left him with significant disabilities.
Best, a North Myrtle Beach Police Sergeant, died in 2021 while responding to an emergency call. Tunnel to Towers provided help for his family, ensuring they were supported during their time of loss.
The initiative also includes specially adapted smart homes designed to accommodate service members with catastrophic injuries. Improvements like ADA-compliant features enhance safety and accessibility.
“We heard you, and we see you, and we're here to help,” said Trevor Tamsen, a spokesman for Tunnel to Towers, highlighting the foundation's dedication to aiding veterans and first responders.
As part of its ongoing mission, Tunnel to Towers opened a Veteran Village in Charleston on July 24, 2026, further supporting veterans across the country.
