COVENTRY, R.I. (WJAR) — Three people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash that downed a utility pole Monday afternoon.
According to police, the collision occurred around 2:41 p.m. at 1395 Nooseneck Hill Road involving two passenger vehicles. One vehicle struck a utility pole, causing it to fall onto a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus.
Authorities reported that the bus driver was uninjured and remained in the bus until Rhode Island Energy crews arrived. There were no passengers on board at the time of the incident.
At the scene, another vehicle entered the crash area, becoming entangled in live wires, leading fire crews to report an explosion. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries as a result, and neighboring apartments experienced power outages.
Coventry police confirmed that the drivers of the original two vehicles sustained minor injuries.
Nooseneck Hill Road is closed between Magnolia Drive and Wisteria Drive as utility crews work to replace the downed pole. The road is expected to remain closed until the work is completed.
