Eugene Man Dies in Three-Vehicle Crash Near Beltline Highway

An 84-year-old Eugene man died on Nov. 7 following a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Beltline Highway and West 11th Avenue.

According to an Oregon State Police press release, a westbound Accord, driven by 52-year-old Russell Moncrief of Eugene, braked suddenly and was rear-ended by a westbound Chevrolet Silverado operated by 52-year-old Scott Zipprich of Elmira. The collision caused the Chevrolet to veer into the eastbound lane, striking a Dodge Stratus, driven by Vincent George Canham, 84, of Eugene, head-on.

Moncrief was uninjured, while Zipprich sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Canham was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. A passenger in Canham's vehicle, 77-year-old Rolf Bertel Johansson of Sweden, was also taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

OSP officials reported lane closures on the highway for approximately eight hours during the investigation.
