Fatal crash on I-65 leaves one dead, two injured.

WOLCOTT, Ind. (WISH) — A collision between a semitruck and a box truck on Interstate 65 in White County left one person dead and two others injured early Friday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash occurred around 4 a.m. on I-65 southbound near the 197-mile marker. Investigators report that a 2018 Freightliner semitruck was in the right lane while a 2020 Hino box truck was traveling in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, the Hino moved into the right lane, colliding with the Freightliner's trailer.

The White County Coroner's Office pronounced the box truck's passenger dead at the scene. The victim's identity will be released after proper identification and family notification.

Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Hino was identified as Richard Amadi, 64, from Arlington, Texas. The driver of the Freightliner has been identified as Ehab Hamza, 43, from Palos Hills, Illinois.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the crash. No lane closures were reported following the incident.
