RUMFORD — A 78-year-old man died Friday afternoon after losing control of his ATV on a steep hill.
Jeffrey Lang was pinned under his Yamaha 450 Grizzly when the vehicle overturned in the woods near Wyman Hill Road, according to the Maine Warden Service.
Lang's wife, nearby at the time, called for help, prompting a local resident who heard their cries to immediately contact 911. Emergency responders and game wardens arrived shortly after but pronounced Lang dead at the scene.
Investigators indicated that Lang was attempting to navigate steep, uneven terrain, which led to the accident. He was scouting the area ahead of the upcoming deer hunting season, wardens said.
