Runaway Truck Crash on Teton Pass Leaves Two Dead, Four Injured
JACKSON, Wyo. — A runaway truck crash on Teton Pass on October 10, 2023, has resulted in two fatalities and four injuries, prompting concerns regarding safety measures on the route.
Authorities reported that a tractor-trailer lost control while traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 26/89, colliding with several vehicles. The incident occurred around 2:41 p.m. Local emergency responders, including the Teton County Sheriff's Office and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
The crash claimed the lives of two individuals, both male, aged 27 and 34. Four others sustained injuries, one seriously, and were transported to St. John's Health for medical treatment.
According to witnesses, the truck, traveling downhill, appeared to have experienced brake failure before veering into oncoming traffic. Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) officials are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
The crash led to temporary lane closures as emergency services worked to clear the scene and conduct their investigation. Towing services were called to remove the vehicles involved.
