Terrytown Woman Charged with Vehicular Homicide After Hit-and-Run on Crescent City Connection
A Terrytown woman faces a vehicular homicide charge following a hit-and-run incident that left a motorcyclist dead on the Crescent City Connection on Saturday.
According to Louisiana State Police, troopers responded to the scene near General De Gaulle Drive around 3:30 a.m. after a motorcycle rider was struck by a vehicle. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Lonnie Thompson of Westwego, was not wearing a helmet and sustained life-threatening injuries; he died at a local hospital on Sunday.
Authorities reported that 26-year-old Azaria Scott collided with Thompson's Can-Am Spyder and attempted to leave the scene. Troopers apprehended her nearby shortly after the crash.
Scott agreed to a breathalyzer test, which indicated she was intoxicated at the time of the incident. She was initially charged with driving under the influence (DUI), reckless vehicle injuring, and hit and run. Following Thompson's death, the reckless vehicle injuring charge was elevated to vehicular homicide.
Scott is currently held at the Orleans Parish jail, and the crash remains under investigation.
