Mass Casualty Incident in Pikesville After MTA Bus Crash; 36 Injured
Pikesville, MD—At approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday, an MTA bus collided with multiple vehicles and crashed into a FedEx building on Reisterstown Road.
According to Baltimore County Police, 12 vehicles were involved in the accident, resulting in injuries to 36 individuals, including the bus driver, who is currently in critical condition.
“The type of scene that is more associated with a war scene, but we're so happy that everyone survived,” said Joe Dixon, Baltimore County Fire Chief. Emergency services responded with 15 ambulances from various counties to assist with patient transport.
Witnesses reported that the bus failed to stop at a red light before striking a white SUV. Security footage from a nearby business confirmed the account. Police emphasized that the investigation into the crash's circumstances is ongoing.
Both BGE and multiple fire units responded to the scene following reports of downed power lines. No further details on outages have been provided as inquiries are pending.
Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones expressed condolences and praised first responders for their prompt action. Jones urged residents to avoid the area to allow for emergency operations.
The situation remains fluid as authorities work to manage the aftermath of this incident.
