COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 20-year-old man faces federal gun charges after a March 14 police pursuit in Linden ended in a crash that killed two.
Tyler Brandon, 20, was charged in federal court with felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition, according to federal court records.
Police said a 17-year-old led officers on a brief pursuit and crashed into another vehicle at Hamilton and 19th avenues, killing 71-year-old Franklin Ward and 52-year-old Tessa Berry.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers took the teen driver, Brandon, and two other 17-year-olds into custody following the crash.
Officers reported finding a black 9mm handgun near Brandon and a magazine with ammunition on him; investigators said a fingerprint on the magazine matched Brandon, according to court documents.
Court records state Brandon is prohibited from possessing a gun or ammunition due to a prior aggravated robbery conviction. He was previously sentenced to three years of community control, and a resentencing hearing has been scheduled in that case.
