Massachusetts Couple Killed in Kauai Helicopter Crash
Kauai, HI — A sightseeing helicopter crash off the coast of Kauai claimed the lives of three individuals, including Massachusetts residents Margaret Rimmler, 65, and Patrick Haskell, 59, on Thursday afternoon.
According to authorities, the helicopter, which was carrying one pilot and four passengers, went down into the ocean, injuring two others onboard. The incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. Local emergency services responded and medical aid was provided.
Haskell, who recently retired from his role at a family insurance agency in Needham, and his wife Rimmler were recognized for their contributions to their community. The agency released a statement expressing deep sorrow over their passing, emphasizing Haskell’s commitment to family and clients throughout his career.
Witnesses reported the couple as adventurous and beloved members of their community. Rimmler was remembered for her creativity and enthusiasm for exploration, often engaging in hiking and sports.
Kauai Police Chief Rudy Tai confirmed the identities of Rimmler and Haskell and stated that the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. The identity of the third victim has not yet been released.
