Family Mourning After Fatal Turnpike Crash in Florida
Roderick Dor, 54, died in a crash involving a semi-truck making an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike on August 12.
According to authorities, Dor was traveling with two friends when their van collided with the truck, resulting in three fatalities. Dor had recently moved to Indiana after residing in Georgia and Miami since arriving in the U.S. a year and a half ago. He intended to return to Haiti to start a business, as confirmed by his sister, Guerline Dorelus.
Dor’s son, who flew in from Switzerland for the funeral, expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Now I don’t have a father. Everyone has a father but me.”
The incident drew significant media attention, leading to a press conference held by the Governor of Florida. The Florida Lieutenant Governor later escorted the truck driver, Harjinder Singh, back to Florida to face vehicular homicide charges.
The family reported a lack of outreach from officials, stating, “Only the Haitian consulate contacted us.” They are working with the consulate to bring Dor’s daughters, aged 13 and 15, into the U.S. but have encountered obstacles due to the closure of the embassy in Haiti and visa issues.
No additional injuries have been reported, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
